// hello //

I’m Jayme, a sommelier-turned-farmer, and I live in a small town out on Colorado’s Western Slope. My husband and I own and work on a vineyard together, where we make high-elevation white wine and rosé, under our label, The Storm Cellar. I share my cocktail explorations, travel stories, vineyard life, and wine musings here at holly & flora.

You can read a little more about me here.

When you look at a guest list on paper or on a spr When you look at a guest list on paper or on a spreadsheet, and it looks completely doable, but then you set up the tables and place the seats, and it all-of-a-sudden looks INSANE.

Last night’s asado with the @foragesisters here at The Storm Cellar was truly a night to remember. Top of mind, the best part was that the weather was just about perfect. A little chilly, but fixable with sweaters, coats, and throws.

Thank you to all of our wine family, colleagues, club members, and new friends for being here (right in front of my house, haha!!) last night for our season kickoff dinner.

And BIG LOVE to our friends and incredibly talented chefs, Mirasol and Nicole, for throwing a killer all-veg, fire-cooked, SEVEN-COURSE dinner outside our vines.

Magic.
Love.
Creativity.
Connection.

We slept so hard last night!!

It’s a cold, rainy afternoon, and I’m spending It’s a cold, rainy afternoon, and I’m spending the day prepping for tomorrow’s asado with the @foragesisters, featuring new releases from @stormcellarwine — I’m so excited to share them!!

All of the wines we’ll be pouring aren’t quite yet bottled, so we are filling up wine bottles straight from the tanks to share at the dinner, which is a fire-cooked, ALL VEG, multi-course dinner!!

I’m serving these Grüner Veltliner spritzes with the passed apps, along with a spirit-free version — they’ll be paired with vegetarian sushi, and I’m super excited about that. 🌿🥒🍣

K i w i ‘ s P l a y h a u s

1 1/2 ounces gin
2 ounces Grüner Veltliner
1/4 ounce @chareauspirit aloe liqueur
1/2 ounce kiwi-melon syrup
1/2 ounce lemon juice
seltzer
pea blossoms, for garnish

1. In a mixing tin, combine all ingredients, except for the seltzer, and shake well.
2. Strain into a tall/collins glass that’s filled with ice and top with seltzer.
3. Garnish with pea blossoms.

🌿 How do you make the syrup? —> Juice half a small honeydew melon with two kiwis. Strain and combine the juice with an equal amount of sugar and let stir until dissolved. Store in the fridge for up to two weeks.

🌿 What other wines work here? —> Go with an aromatic, dry variety that also has herbaceous/vegetal notes, like Sauv Blanc, Grenache Blanc, or Vermentino.

I shared this particular wine cocktail last month at a dinner at @bin707foodbar, and I knew it needed an appearance tomorrow night, since Grüner is my favorite grape variety to pair with vegetables.

Stay warm, Colorado friends!! ❄️

Happy spring! 🌱🌿🪴 How is it the middle of Happy spring! 🌱🌿🪴 How is it the middle of May? How come time can’t slow down just a little? How are you hanging in?

I’ve got some exciting news to share, but I’m too tired and too filthy to take a photo. Instead, I’ll share some mid-May photos and videos from the garden and vineyard!

Everything is popping, and I’m here for it. 💥

What’s showing up in your garden or blowing up over town that you’re super excited about? 🤩

I just did a massive garden cleanup today, in preparation for our wine-paired asado with the @foragesisters this Saturday night!!

Now to order edible flowers for all of the spirit-free diners and plan out how @big_zen and I are going to pick up seven heavy dinner tables sometime on Thursday. 🤔

1️⃣ Alliums in bloom and groovin’.
2️⃣ Future green salsa!!
3️⃣ The last of the redbud blossoms — did you know they are edible?
4️⃣ Steve and I assembled and attached over 2,000 grow-tubes this week! 😵 Only 6,500 left to go!
5️⃣ The cutest little daisy patch in the Riesling plot.
6️⃣ Sweet garden kitty, @kazuandash 💓💓💓
7️⃣ Our irises are finally exploding this year — whites, ruffles, yellows, purples, indigos, and another unnamed one in my stories!
8️⃣ Amaranth!!! 🌿🌿🌿
9️⃣ Dirty nails and a hand-picked bouquet from @big_zen 💓
🔟 Wild asparagus grows in our vineyard, so I have the *best* work-snacks.

Happy springtime hugs!!

If you’d asked me five years ago what I thought If you’d asked me five years ago what I thought winemaking looked like, I’d have mentioned sorting tables, conveyor belts, forklifts, and other highly automated pieces of equipment.

For the two of us, in a relatively small winery, it’s a Iot of manual components — shoveling, lifting, sifting — but @big_zen and I get it done with what we have.

This mundane-yet-important harvest scene was epically captured by our friends @thirteenthirtyonekreative this past October here at the winery, when we processed this particular two-ton press-load of grapes.

This is our pneumatic bladder press and our winery, a retrofitted machine shop that houses 2,500 cases’ worth of wine in tank, along with our current inventory. It’s tightly packed and MIGHTY!

But first, let’s take a moment to witness the mutual TRUST going on here in this video! 😎

We are about to bottle the wine from these very grapes, our Colorado-grown, @stormcellarwine 2021 Box Bar Vineyard Dry Riesling!!

One day we’ll have a concrete crush-pad and a forklift, but for now, we’ll make the best of what we have (SAFELY!! 😳) and eke out smiles, while we are making it happen!!

✖️ Which parts of the winemaking process would you like to know more about?
✖️ Which BTS moment in your world gives you the most grief or makes you want better automation?
✖️ ARE YOU READY FOR RIESLING SEASON (basically, it’s an all-year thing!!)??

Colorado friends (or out-of-state friends, ya neve Colorado friends (or out-of-state friends, ya never know)!! 🤩 Steve and I are thrilled to host another wine dinner with our dear friends Nicole and Mirasol of the @foragesisters for an outdoor asado, featuring six wines from our @stormcellarwine spring release!

Nicole and Mirasol are the lady chefs and owners behind one of the Southwest’s hottest catering and event companies, the Forage Sisters, and they’ve created an innovative and seasonal ALL-VEGETARIAN, multi-course dinner that we’ll be hosting here at the winery, atop Sunshine Mesa.

That VIEW is unbeatable. 😍

I’m so excited to share, along with @big_zen, some of our new wines, featuring a few of my current favorites - - -

🌿 2021 Santa Maria Valley Rosé of Pinot Noir
🌿 2021 Box Bar Vineyard Riesling
🌿 2021 Horse Heaven Hills Sauv Blanc

And you know there will be a spring-inspired wine cocktail to kick things off! I’m also excited to create an optional spirit-free pairing for the night, with non-alcoholic sips for every course.

Get menu details and ticketing information via the link in my profile. This outdoor asado is going to be a special one!
